SEIZE OPPORTUNITIES
Ours is a world haunted by the gorillas; we have poverty and insecurity hunting us.
The world where a government is using debts to pay debts, you are shocked?
Don’t be, the idea of turning the unpaid salary to bond is using debt to pay a debt.
The government we required refuge from requires refuge too.
Honestly, our government is broke if we are to be factual.
And in this age we have huge national debt in accounts of governments, and the people still believe government is not doing it right now, but am happy to tell you the government is in this mess because they didn’t seize their opportunity to build the external reserve,
On Tuesday, our amiable vice president revealed that Nigeria’s foreign reserve remained at $30b even during periods when oil price was above $90 averagely per annum, he added that countries in OPEC members built their external reserve during that period with reference to Saudi Arabia which built $700b as foreign reserve.
Masses expect the government to give subsidy and enjoy cheap products; the government cannot because it is “broke”.
The goddess of fortune has come to our government; we are in this mess since we didn’t seize the opportunity.
Let me you tale of a man named Thakur, who left his city to buy sheep from another city, he journeyed tirelessly for weeks and didn’t see a good flock of sheep to buy, after that he decided to head back home, on getting to the gate of his city it has been closed for it was late in the night, then he heard bleats of sheep nearby getting there he met the a man Donald by name, who owns the flock, who shared his story that his only daughter is on sickbed and that he needs money urgently to head back and take care of her, Thakur too shared his story, and Donald proposed to Thakur to pay half of the price they sell the flock for the full flock so he can depart for his city, but Thakur declined he said he cannot confirm the health and size of the flock for it is late, so he delayed the payment till the morning though Donald proposed he pays one-fourth of the total amount to him that night, saying his chief of staff will wait to collect the remaining three-fourth in the morning, but alas! in the morning, some traders headed to the gates because there was already famine in the city and there is need for more food and meat so they proposed to Donald to buy his flock at a price 5 times higher than the worth of the flock
So Thakur lost, because he didn’t seize his opportunity, he could have bought and sell for a price ten times more than he bought.
Similarly to the position of our government, many people earn well and save none, thinking the stream of their income will flow eternally as if the rain falls every day, many of us have missed life changing opportunities like our friend Thakur who procrastinated, we think like “I want to do that thing because it is good, and I will do it one of these days” I talked with many people and their story is that in the advanced countries, people have good climate for thinking and pragmatic ideas because their government did it, this is a capital N-O, NO! the gigantic and tall houses were built by firms and businessmen and not the government, the very bane of crude oil market “shale oil” was discovered and harnessed by individuals who went out and make things happen.
So get up and get something done, seize your opportunities as one of these days may be too late, waiting for a good climate before you get something good done will make you get nothing done.
